Inside WebBox September News: 11th Birthday Edition

We’ve come a long way from the humble beginnings of a spare bedroom in the aftermath of the credit crunch. And to celebrate our 11th Birthday, we’re sharing some of the most memorable moments of the journey so far.

People thought our MD Will was crazy to start an agency in the wake of the credit crunch. Maybe he was crazy. But he had a clear vision: to grow a digital agency that really listened and put exceptional service at the heart of its offering.
 
Cue WebBox.
 
Officially launched in 2008, Will’s results-driven digital solutions quickly became hot stuff. Demand grew fast – and so too did the WebBox team. Here’s a quick recap: 

2008: WebBox is born
2009: We delivered our first public sector project for the NHS
2010: We hired our first employee — a web developer with excellent tea-making skills (bonus!)
2011: We became a limited company
2012: An expanding team called for more office space — so we made the move to our Penarth premises
2013: We won our first FTSE index client; Airbus
2014: We gained Google Partner accreditation
2015: The WebBox CMS was created — which is now used by the NHS, Airbus and FTSE 100 firm DS Smith
2016: We were the first in the UK to become SensioLab accredited. This same year we also became certified Google Ads Specialists
2017: After nine years in business we shook things up with a brand refresh that better reflected the WebBox brand
2018: Our 10th Birthday year saw us grow even bigger — expanding our team, our services and our client base
2019: Office move — our new Cardiff premises will facilitate the growth of our digital services, portfolio and team.

That’s the official timeline, but what were the most memorable moments for our team?

“The most memorable moments for me have been earning two FTSE100 clients, moving to our current office and continuing to grow — and work with — an amazing team. I’m also proud of the way that we’ve consistently put service levels at the forefront of what we do.”

“I’ve only been with WebBox for six months, but for me, the most memorable moments — and achievements — have to be every time we win a client. Seeing the team achieve great results is a high point, too. We recently demonstrated an outstanding 17,261% ROI for one of our amazing clients.”

“One of the most memorable moments was our MD Will’s face when we gave him his 30th Birthday present. You can see it here. There was also a time when Digital Marketing Manager, Tom Wickens, was convinced that turkeys were female chickens and our Junior Web Developer, Matteo, believed that a client was Swedish DJ and record producer, Eric Prydz. But on a more serious note, rebranding WebBox, winning highly competitive pitches for brands including Welsh Athletics, St John Cymru and Hollywood props company Tarver Productions were stand-out moments for me.”

Which brings us to 2019 — and our 11th birthday year.

With our demand, our team and our service offering continuing to expand, WebBox has outgrown the Penarth office that we’ve called home for the last seven years. This year we’ll be upping sticks to larger premises in Cardiff to accommodate our growth. You can find out more about our big move here.
