With a rich history spanning decades, Welsh Gymnastics continues to be a beacon of athleticism, skill development, and sportsmanship.

Welsh Gymnastics (WG) is the National Governing Body (NGB) for gymnastics in Wales. At its core, WG aims to nurture a love for gymnastics, while nurturing talent, and supporting athletes on their journey across all levels. Through an extensive network of clubs, coaches, and dedicated professionals, Welsh Gymnastics offers a supportive environment that fosters personal growth, physical well-being, and the development of life skills.

The Challenge

The National Governing Body (NGB) felt that their website didn’t promote the benefits and excitement of the sport to their target audience, and felt the brand had become dated. As they were set to go to the Commonwealth Games soon after, they wanted a rebrand project before heading to the games, with the new website being launched shortly afterward.

Welsh Gymnastics understood the various target audiences they work with clearly, however, recognised that the website didn’t include clear user journeys for the various target audiences. These included, children learning gymnastics in schools/clubs, parents of children involved in gymnastics, professional/competing gymnasts, instructors, trainers, and businesses.

The Solution

At the time, Welsh Gymnastics was set to be on the world stage ahead of the Commonwealth Games, so we began work on their brand so that it reflected their values and professionalism, while showcasing that they’re a modern National Governing Body. This included everything from logo concepts and typefaces, through to colour palettes and brand guidelines. This provided WG with the collateral they required to attend the Commonwealth Games and make the impact they so deserved.

We then moved onto the website – We created a bespoke website design that reflected the new branding and portrayed the image of a leading NGB. We built the new website using WordPress, which offered a scalable and secure solution. The website was designed to be responsive, making it easy to use on desktops, tablets, and mobiles. Accessibility played a large part of the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design, as we sought to make the sport accessible to the widest possible audience.

The build ensured that Welsh Gymnastics were left with a website that they could manage day-to-day. Everything from changing the text and media, through to add and re-ordering blocks on the page was implemented throughout the development phase. This allows WG to keep the website up to date easily, especially the sections to allow users to find a club, event, or course.

What’s next

We continue to support Welsh Gymnastics via one of our website support plans as they continually develop the website based on user-feedback, trends, and data.

The website undergoes regular updates, introducing new features aimed at enhancing the website’s functionality and user experience. Stay tuned for these updates!
