Cardiff & Vale UHB.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board supports a population of around 445,000 people living in Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. It oversees seventeen health centres, public health and community care services and also has a range of specialist services used by the whole of Wales.

One of its key priorities is ensuring that nursing staff are efficiently deployed across its facilities, to ensure safe staffing levels and the best patient experience.

We were appointed to develop a new bank shift system which would enable nurses and external agencies to view and inquire about available shifts, making it as easy as possible to manage the allocation of human resources across the health board’s facilities.

WebBox worked with us to design a system that integrated with our existing software and worked effectively across a range of phones and other devices. This enabled a successful two-way feed of information between staff and the Nurse Bank office. The system is easy to use and enables staff to find work 24/7, enabling our wards to more effectively cover their staffing needs.

We developed a bespoke internet portal, which drew data from a .csv file supplied from the client’s server. We then developed a user-friendly interface for nurses and agencies to use across desktop and mobile devices.

The .csv file is updated on our server every hour, and our system reads this information and updates the data on the bank shift system.

We also built multiple filters so nurses and agencies could define the hospitals that they wanted to view available shifts in. Agency user accounts are set up by the Health Board within the portal’s content management system (CMS).
